Four Stroke Engine Rebuild
As a guide, the strip, clean and gereral rebuild of a Four Stroke Engine will cost in the region of £130 for the labour plus parts. This does not include any major head work or valve replacement etc. This is only a guide and is when we are supplied with the engine only and does not include it's removal and refit in to the chassis. Genuine piston kits are generally £160 upwards, Steel valve sets are £150 upwards and if Titanium valves are used then email for an estimate first as they can cost £80 each or more. Because of the complexity of a modern racing Four Stroke engine, it is our genuine advice that it is done by a reputable source or Main dealer. There are too many self professed "Mechanic's" that neither have the experience, knowledge and special tools to do the job properly. Even KTM will not allow us as dealers to even BUY a newly introduced Model or engine before we have sent a workshop technichian on an official training seminar! Gasket sets cost £40 - £80 for the entire set as genuine KTM include all the engine seals as well. Main bearing sets are widely different in price, as is the Con Rod / big end replacement so please email for a more accurate estimate. Cylinder replate is approximatly £130 upwards depending on damage. (please try to re-plate whenever possible as the fitting of a liner can sometimes be a wrong move.)
One interesting point WE learnt whislt discussing some technical information with a major engine component manufacturer was that whilst it is very important to observe the physical wear via measurement and visual inspection at 40 hour's. it is advisable to change even if those measurements are in tollerance. Why?, well because of the such small skirts on some modern 4 stroke high performance engines the piston actually "Flex's" either side of the piston pin hole and in their opinion, more often than not the piston may suffer failure or cracking because of "Fatigue" from this flex rather than a failure because of wear or poor condition! Interesting and a very valid point! |
