Rear Shock Absorber service
Approximate costs for Rear Shock rebuild
As a guide, the general strip, clean + rebuild of rear Shock absorber will cost in the region of £85 + vat for the labour plus the cost of any internal parts if needed. As a guide, most shocks of less than 12 months old that have had an average amount of use will just beneifit from a good clean when stripped and a rebuild and regas using good quality shock oil. Shocks requiring a main body block and seal assy will add approximatly £40 plus to the bill. Any Revalving work can be priced upon request via an E-mail enquiry. A tip from us is to keep the swingarm bearings in good service and well greased. If the bearings are in poor condition, this will have a major effect on the bikes handling no matter how the shock is setup. Don't make the mistake of "Backing Off" all the rebound damping in an attempt to make the bike "softer" as sometimes described in owners manuals. The rebound damping in most shocks is reasonably constant throughout its return stroke and setting it to minimum will make the bike kick very badly throwing the rider forward or over the bars!
Do not let the gas out of the resavoir in an attepmt to make it softer....... It doesn't work like that! Generally the turnaround time on stripping, servicing and rebuilding a rear Shock absorber is within a week. |
